Industry Leadership Summit 2024: The Future of Health in the Malaysian Workplace

 

 

 

On 10th October 2024, coinciding with World Doctor’s Day and World Mental Health Day, PMCare Sdn Bhd proudly hosted the Industry Leadership Summit 2024: The Future of Health in the Malaysian Workplace at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre, Bangsar. Organized by The Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy, the summit delved into key issues surrounding workforce health, featuring a day of insightful discussions and thought-provoking presentations across four key sessions.

 

The event began with opening remarks by En Kamal Aryf Baharuddin, CEO of PMCare Sdn Bhd, who set the tone for a day of meaningful dialogue, emphasizing the importance of health leadership in the workplace. This was followed by a keynote address delivered by En Azrul Mohd Khalib, CEO of The Galen Centre, focusing on the current challenges in human resources, occupational safety, and health in Malaysia.

 

Key Sessions: Forums and Spotlights

 

The summit featured two (2) insightful forums and two (2) spotlights, each addressing critical aspects of workplace health:

 

Forum 1: Addressing Non-Communicable Diseases in the Workplace

 

 

Moderated by Ms Melissa Idris, this forum explored the pressing issue of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their significant impact on the workplace. The panel featured esteemed speakers:

  • Dato’ Dr. Kalwinder Singh Khaira, President, Malaysian Medical Association
  • Dr. Abed Onn, Vice-President, Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia
  • Dr. Azwan Abdullah Al-Hadi, General Manager, Health, Safety & Environment Portfolio, KOSSAN Rubber

 

Forum 2: Strategies to Improve Workforce Health and Support an Aging Workforce

 

 

Moderated by Ms Tee Shiao Eek, this session addressed strategies to improve overall worker health and support the growing needs of an aging workforce. Speakers included:

 

  • Dr. Gogillan Sevaratnam, Vice-President, Malaysian Society of Occupational Health Doctors
  • En. Mohd Farid Shah bin Mohd Basir, Vice President, Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF)
  • Dr. Leevyadhashiny Ganasan, Health Promotion Lead, National Cancer Society of Malaysia

 

Spotlight 1: Managing Cancer in the Workplace

 

 

This spotlight, titled “Stay Informed, Stay Healthy: Managing Cancer At Work,” featured insights from:

 

  • Dr. Norie Kawahara, Representative Director, Asia Cancer Forum of Japan
  • Dr. M. Murallitharan, Managing Director, National Cancer Society of Malaysia

 

Spotlight 2: SOCSO’s Perspective on Worker Health and Safety

 

 

The second spotlight was presented by Dr. Ahmad Syarifuddin Ramlan, Head of Medical Opinion Unit, Social Security Organization (SOCSO), who shared SOCSO’s perspective on the current challenges in responding to worker health needs and safety.

 

Special Presentation by PMCare

 

 

A special presentation was delivered by Dr. Fong Yeat Min, General Manager of Healthcare Solutions at PMCare. Dr. Fong highlighted PMCare’s ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare solutions that support Malaysian businesses in safeguarding the health of their employees.

 

Contribution to National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM)

 

 

In a further demonstration of its commitment to social responsibility, PMCare made a RM10,000 contribution to the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM). This gesture reinforces our ongoing support for cancer awareness and treatment initiatives across the country.
